Ehrhardt was founded in 1888 by German immigrants as they were building the railroads from Columbia, SC to Savannah, Ga. It had a large train station which still standing, a large cotton gin, the first Luthern church and manufacturing plants.
The town had 18 practicing doctors by the early 1900's. On the outskirts of town you will find one of the last original stage coach service houses.

The community was named after one of the town's cofounders, Conrad Ehrhardt. He was so mechanically astute and schooled in engineering principles that he was able to repair the main steam engine for the town in 8 hours, just after Sherman's army had sabotaged it and thought it was long out of commission. The town is located 4 miles from the state park which displays the best works of one of the only resistances shown Sherman's army in SC.
