The longest black water river in the world, the Edisto winds through miles of Bamberg County's dense hardwood swamps, providing a backdrop of moss
draped trees and colorful plants. Much of the river along the north and south forks remain in its natural state, and anglers can fish for largemouth

Cathedral Bay Heritage Preserve - Located in Bamberg
County, this 58-acre blackwater cypress bay is near the junction of SC Highway 64 and US Highway 301. Cathedral Bay, also known as Chitty Bay or
Chitty Pond, is an excellent example of the Carolina Bay phenomenon. Carolina Bays are elliptical or oval basins found throughout the Atlantic
Coastal Plain. Since standing water up to three feet is prevalent parts of the year, access to Cathedral Bay is by waddling, shallow-draft
johnboats, or canoes. The bay is dry at times and this permits hiking.
-
Rivers Bridge State Historic Site - Erhardt. The
only state park to commemorate the Confederacy. Battle breastworks are still intact at this spot where a small band of Confederate troops tried
to hold off Sherman's inevitable march.
Enjoy fishing in the Salkehatchie River for bream, crappie and catfish. Find nature trails, picnic shelters, playgrounds, meeting facilities
and campsites.
Listed on the National Register.
