Edisto River Jacksonboro, little more than a settlement on the Edisto River, was founded in 1735 on land granted to John Jackson in 1701. It is located near Walterboro in the midst of the ACE Basin and is the midway point between Charleston and Beaufort.
History and Trivia
  • Jacksonboro was the county seat of Colleton County from 1799 to 1822.
  • While Charleston was under siege in the American Revolution, Jacksonboro was named the provisional capital of South Carolina.

Drive the Rivers and Rice Trail of the SC Heritage Corridor, which passes through Jacksonboro.
Pon Pon Chapel of Ease ruins are located on Parkers Ferry Road, just outside of Jacksonboro.
