Grover, South Carolina, originally known as Murray's Crossroads, was once a major stagecoach route from Charleston SC to Augusta, GA. The name was
changed to Grover in 1892, in honor of President Grover Cleveland, when the United Postal Service established a post office in the community.

A Piece of History

Grover, South Carolina, is home to Appleby Methodist Church, Est. 1787. Originally called
the "Methodist Meeting House", the church was organized just after the American Revolution and the site was
deeded to seven trustees, one of them being the congregation's first minister, Jacob Barr.
The Greek Revival structure on the site today was built between 1840 and 1850 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There is also a small cemetary, which includes plots of the Appleby family, whom the church was named after, as well as the graves of other families from the community and their slaves.
