Eutawville, a town with natural beauty, an ideal climate and friendly people, is located in the Santee River System. The first home in Eutaw Village was built in 1836 when planters along the Santee River sought refuge for their families from the low ground surrounding the original river system to the high grounds of Eutaw Village.

The community settled slowly due do the principal crop of rice not growing well in the area. After Eli Whitney's cotton gin was introducted to the area, cotton became a staple crop and the community began to grow along the Santee Canal.
The area was also home to a small colony of French Huguenots but much of that settlement was destroyed when Lake Marion was created.

The Grave of Major John Majoribanks was located where the British army encamped at Wantoot Plantation, home of Daniel Ravenel, after the Battle of Eutaw Springs. Now under Lake Moultrie, it was about 25 miles southeast of St. John's Parish, five miles west of Bonneau. Major Majoribanks died and was buried there on October 22, 1781. The grave was moved to a site on S. C. Highway 6, 2.5 miles east of Eutawville at Eutaw Springs in 1941 by the South Carolina Public Service Authority.
